This took a long time!
I did this piece for the Bronycon documentary contest. I'm pretty proud of it and working on it taught me a ton.
a quick explanation from the prizes.org submission:
"Once I learned that copyrighted elements were not allowed I thought that it would be more meaningful to draw bronies instead of an OC. This picture is meant to represent what the brony community is, to me at least. First, We're hanging out in an aisle enjoying something society says is branded for little girls, and we are rewriting the rules so that anyone can enjoy it. Second, the show we love brings all kinds of different people together into a community of friendship, tolerance, and awesome. I've had a lot of fun and learned a ton about art from working on this picture the last ten days, and I hope my message got across. Good luck everypony!"
I applied a color dodge layer and made the whole thing cheerier. I definitely need to work on my lighting and color. aaaaaand then I drew in some people and lines and made it even brighter
I uploaded a process gif
I didn't win the contest, I think primarily because this piece is rather complex and detailed and unsuited to be a poster. In the judge's words "we just didn't think it had the kind of mass appeal needed" Ah well, learning and having fun making it was more important than winning.
